Aluminum PCB Types
No matter you are a PCB hobbyist, engineer, designer, etc., aluminum PCBs may be not strange to you. But do you really familiar with them? In this article, EPCB will give a brief introduction about aluminum PCBs.
There are three mainly different types of metal aluminum base that commonly used, including 1000 series, 5000 series and 6000 series, and their features will be respectively discussed below.
1000 series, also known as pure aluminum base, contain 1050, 1060, 1070 series. 1000 is the purest one among three mainly series for its purity can reach more than 99.00%. This purity makes its production process become very single and simple, and leads to a relatively cheap market price. It is currently the most commonly used series in conventional industry.
5000 series, belonged to alloy aluminum base series, include 5052, 5005, 5083 and 5A05 series. 5000 contains about 3-5% magnesium element, so it is also known as aluminum and magnesium alloys. Low density, high tensile strength and high elongation rate are its main features. At present, 5052 is the most widely used one in 5000 series.
Belong to 6000 series, 6061 mainly includes magnesium and silicon two kinds of elements. As a kind of cold treatment of aluminum product, 6061 is used to against corrosion and oxidation. Excellent interface characteristics, easy to coating, high strength, good workability and strong corrosion resistance are 6061’s typical advantages.
All in all, aluminum PCBs can be categorized: HASL aluminum PCB, OSP aluminum PCB, silver plated aluminum PCB, immersion gold aluminum PCB, etc. They also can be classified based on their applications, such as LED aluminum PCB, COB aluminum PCB, packaging aluminum PCB, power supply aluminum PCB, etc.
