Energy Vehicles Surge the PCB Market
Traditional cars at this stage has lower degree of electronic, less demand for PCB. PCBs account for about 2% of the total cost of electronic devices. On average, the PCB usage per vehicle is about 1 square meter and costs about $60. The high-end models are 2-3 square meters and worth about $ 120-130.
Compared with traditional cars, the demand for PCB has significantly improved in new energy vehicles due to its unique power system. The specific sources of PCB increments in new energy vehicles are mainly thanks to three power control system(BMS, VCU and MCU).
Control circuit of VCU needs the PCB of about 0.03 square meters. Control circuit of MCU needs about 0.15 total square meters PCB. The BMS hardware consists of master control (BCU) and slave control (BMU). It generally utilizes stable multilayer boards, and because of its complex structure, it needs a large number of PCB, with PCB area of about 0.24 square meters in control circuit and about 2-3 square meters in single management unit.
In recent years, the world's new energy vehicle market has developed rapidly. It is said that in 2013 the global sales of new energy vehicles was only 147,000. But from 2014 to 2016, the global sales of new energy vehicles were 350,000, 550,000 and 770,000 respectively, with a compound annual growth rate of 48.3%.
As the largest new energy vehicle market in the world, China's new energy vehicles achieved 379,000 and 516,000 respectively from 2015 to 2016. The conservative forecasts are that domestic production of new energy vehicles will be 700,000 and 1 million, 1.2 million and 1.5 million, corresponding market penetration will gradually increase to about 5%.
According to the statistics of the Global Energy Agency (IEA), the total sales volume of new-energy vehicles in the world will reach 6 million by 2020, which means that new-energy vehicles will bring nearly 12 billion market increases to the global automotive market. Among them, 3 billion yuan market is at least brought to the domestic auto market.
