Apple is expected to launch 3 new iPhones in 2017, 2 of them will use LCD panel, another one use an OLED panel. According to the latest news, Apple plans to increase the proportion of OLED panels year after year, aiming to completely use OLED panel in the new iPhone in 2019.
Japanese website iPhone Mania, taisy.0 relay Korean media the bell’ report said, according to industry sources, about 40% (about 60 million) new iPhone launched by Apple this year will use OLED panel, and Apple will double this proportion to about 80% in 2018, therefore, Apple can apply OLED panel on every iPhone in 2019.
The report said that flexible circuit boards used in OLED version’s iPhone are supplied by 3 Korean suppliers, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Interflex, and BH. In order to meet the needs of Apple, South Korea FPC manufacturers started to increase investment to achieve more fabrication capacity.
It is reported that flexible board produced by Samsung Electro-Mechanics is only about 90,000 square meters per month. But Samsung Electro-Mechanics had invested 100 billion KRW to expand its production capacity in Vietnam, if the expansion project runs smooth, then its monthly production is expected to double. Currently, Interflex’s production capacity in China, Vietnam and South Korea totally is 295,000 square meters per month, and 100 billion KRW is expected to invest to expand its capacity later this year. In addition, BH’s plant in Vietnam had already increased its monthly production capacity to 220,000 square meters.
